Arlo Technologies is an automation company that primarily focuses on home security and life preservation through the development of extremely sensitive and efficient cameras that record every minute throughout the home. They are built to use little power, enabling extended operating times.

Before becoming a fully independent company in 2018, Arlo was a part of Netgear and operated there for four years. In the fourth quarter of 2014, Arlo’s first project was completed and made available for purchase on Amazon and eBay.

The Arlo security cameras are a beautiful work of art with excellent weather resistance, a 720p high definition camera for the creation of high-quality videos, a brilliant cat eye at night for vision, wireless operation, and above all, it includes an infrared motion sensor that delivers timely videos on the users’ mobile devices.

Resolutions, shapes, sizes, and functionalities of the Arlo cameras vary, ranging from a portable baby protector to the newest Ultra model, but compare to other cameras brands, are Arlo cameras configured to work with the Arlo Base station?

Can I Use Arlo Cameras With Arlo Pro Base Station?

Arlo cameras are designed to be compatible with most of its products. With rarely any exception Arlo pro system can be installed without making any changes whatsoever to the existing Arlo cameras.

However, You have to remove your already existing (if any) wireless camera or products from your Arlo pro base station based on the following conditions:

  • When you have already installed the maximum cameras in the subscription plan

designed for Arlo

You may have up to five cameras on your account with the lowest package. A maximum of 10 cameras are permitted under the Premier plan, and a maximum of 15 cameras are permitted under the Elite plan. You must either upgrade your membership package or delete old cameras if you already subscribed for the highest number of cameras assigned to your account and want to add new cameras. For each new camera, you want to add, you must delete one for the other.

  • Router With No Available Port

There are three options to choose from if an extra port is needed for the Arlo base station

  • Arlo pro base station can be fixed into a range extender for wifi or an Orbi satellite for a wider view of your properties
  • Technology no longer has limitations; some plugs can be fixed into your router to provide you with multiple ports depending on the number of extra ports you need
  • Both your old and new cameras can be linked to any of your base stations. To connect all of your cameras to the Arlo Pro base station, you can either delete your Arlo base station from your account or integrate your new Arlo Pro cameras into your existing base station.

  • Tired And Want To Discontinue Arlo Wire-Free System

If a replacement Arlo Pro Base system is purchased for an Arlo system. You must stop using the Arlo camera and remove the base station from your account. A new system can be created for your Arlo Pro system by deleting the base station, which not only vanishes but also drags the cameras that are attached to it. By doing so, users can link Arlo wireless cameras to your new Arlo Pro Base Station.

Can You Use New Arlo Cameras With Old Base Station?

Yes! Each wireless camera is built to function with either a brand-new base station or an already-installed base station. Synchronization is all that’s required. Once that is done correctly, there shouldn’t be any issues connecting a new camera to an old base station.

You must be connected to WiFi to improve synchronization before pressing the base synchronization button and camera synchronization button to claim the base.

It’s important to ensure that the camera specification is compatible with the already existing base station. Blue LEDs will blink at you to let you know the connection was a success.

Will Arlo Pro 2 Cameras Work with Arlo Pro 3?

No, and yes! Pro 2 and Pro 3 cameras can be used together, although doing so can cause issues if you’re attaching them to a Pro 2 camera SmartHub or base station. The burden of connecting the cameras to the app and cloud for video archiving falls on the hubs. Although it is possible to use Pro 3 cameras on a Pro 2 hub this will technically have a significant impact on their functions.

Arlo Pro 3 is an improvement over Arlo Pro 2, and it had a lot of noise, higher quality, and the ability to record anything that moves,  thanks to its HDR capability. The Arlo Pro 3 has a unique SmartHub compared to other models, which is the most significant feature. There are functions included with this SmartHub that are not included in normal hubs.

Therefore, the SmartHub is a must-have if you want to benefit from the beauty of owning an Arlo Pro 3 camera while using an Arlo Pro 2 camera or if you want to place the two cameras together. The only hub that will support both Arlo 3 cameras’ and Arlo 2’s functionalities is the smart hub

Can you mix Arlo Pro 2 and Ultra?

The Arlo Pro 3 camera was the company’s first attempt to provide customers with a better version of Ultra. This specific design came with a SmartHub that can seamlessly accommodate its capabilities. The Arlo 3 is a separate device from other hubs, hence the smart hub was created specifically for it.

Arlo Pro 2 and Ultra can be combined, but for best results, this must be done on the right board (SmartHub).

Will Arlo Pro 4 Work with The Old Base Station?

The Arlo Pro 4 is compatible with  VMB5000, VMB4500, and VMB4000 and not compatible with VMB3000. The old base station might not be designed for the ultra Arlo cameras.

Therefore connecting this two will have a significant effect on the delivery of the cameras. To enjoy the full benefits that come with the Arlo Pro 4 such as the 2k video, I will suggest you connect your Arlo Pro 4 camera (s) to a SmartHub.

Arlo SmartHub vs Base Station

The Arlo SmartHub and base station are very similar to one another. Although these two appear in a variety of forms, each has its distinctive qualities. And occasionally can be utilized interchangeably.

  • Arlo SmartHub VMB 5000; this particular SmartHub is compatible with several Arlo Technologies products, including the Pro 3,2 and Ultra devices. With any Arlo compatible camera, this device can stream video at a resolution of 4000. In the VMB 5000, there is no siren.
  • Similar to the VMB5000, the Arlo Base Station 4540 supports a variety of Arlo products, including the Pro, Pro 2, Ultra, and Pro 3. It uses USB 2.0 to function. Additionally, this lacks a siren built into it.
  • Arlo Base Station VMB 4000 with siren: This is well compatible with the Arlo Pro versions (1, 2, and 3). It includes a very loud siren that emits about 100 DB of sound, USB functionality for local storage, and the ability to alert the entire neighborhood if anything intrudes on your privacy. Arlo base stations are also available in other variations, such as the VMB 3000 and 3500.

Conclusion

From my vantage point, Arlo Technologies is not about to relinquish its firm hold on the market. They are well known for their distinctive, cutting-edge, and brilliant security cameras

Arlo Pro cameras and Ultra cameras can be combined in large numbers to operate simultaneously, but only when the proper base station or SmartHub is used.
